Fun with Furniture

While some might get sucked into reality tv or trashy tabloid magazines, and others may justify spending hours completely engrossed in pulp fiction as “relaxation”, I myself can get completely lost online.  Not limited to browsing endlessly for designer clothing or premium home goods, I have been known to impulse shop on free local classified sites like Craigslist or Kijiji.

Inevitably, something irresistible will appear, I will inquire, and then the reality of my basement crammed with previous finds will bring me back to my senses.  Or, I will make the mistake of arranging for a weekend pick up, giving sellers the opportunity to make a better deal in the interim.  For proof, see this sad story about none other than yours truly, and take a good look at the fabulous chair I missed for exactly this reason!  No worries though, Kim from Desire to Inspire and I have since connected, and she was kind enough to point me towards another one.  All in time for me to come to my senses again!

So, having already confessed to my furniture fetish, I thought I might share a few recent finds Kijiji.  There is so much good stuff out there to be rescued and recycled.  You just need to see the potential and use your imagination!

How about this great rattan table and chair set for $250?  Wouldn’t it look great painted a bright red, aqua or jet black with a fabulous, funky fabric for the cushions?  How about a zebra skin, a geometric, or a lattice by eco-friendly Rubie Green or even colourful tropical print like this one from Waverly?

This retro chair and table set speaks for itself.  Potential realized.  No fix necessary.  Just a happy home where someone with bold style will show it off with pride!

More cool chairs. They’re leather and chrome, and come four for only 200$!  Sheesh.  Contrast these with a distressed farmhouse table and some nature inspired white pottery (like a couple of these from Jonathon Adler perhaps?) for a comfy look with a modern twist.

Blogging Ottawa

Here are a few interesting tidbits from Ottawa area bloggers over the last little while…

Fellow interior design junkie Decorate it Darling has been busy nesting in a new apartment.  Read as she shares her ups and downs, including an unfortunate incident with spray paint.

David Reevely of Greater Ottawa dishes out some scoop about a highly anticipated restaurant opening here.  It seems favourite local celebrity/chef Stephen Beckta is planning to open a second hot spot next January, in the heart of the Byward Market.  Stay tuned!

Cheap Eats Ottawa provided their regular list of LCBO Vintages values last Friday, this time with the following rather unusual warning…

”NB – We generally do not recommend that you NOT purchase a product on release – but this time we are compelled to do so. DO NOT BUY Megalomaniac Pink Slip Rose fr. Ontario. The bottle sports a very compelling label and the name is catchy, fun & enticing. The wine is absolutely vile – this product was produced by marketers not winemakers.”

Ottawa Street Style posted this Sunday, clearly indicating there are signs of style out there in this capital city.  Bravo!

Tracizzle of the very sassy Youth League and the Spies just recently returned from a jaunt to New York City, which she recounts over several posts.  Saturday, she shared pictures of her shopping haul, reserving privacy where the price of her beautiful new Dolce & Gabbana bag is concerned.  Personally, I think she really scored with this vintage dress, for a mere $60.  No doubt she will style it well for both summer and winter wear.
