Even with summer coming to an end, and swim season winding down, I am pumped about my latest score!
As any woman knows, finding the right bathing suit can be hard. So hard in fact, that the whole god awful change room scenario is often avoided all together, and practical but “temporary” substitutes are ordered from catalogues or picked up on sale racks. These functional suits may work for water, but are almost always less than flattering. And, they are never meant to last. Instead, these cheap stand ins are intended to hold over until that last 10 pounds are gone or there is a legitimate reason to get a really good one, like Carribbean vacation or a Mediterrranean cruise.
For me, its been several years since I hunkered down and got serious about finding something suitable for my size, shape and years of experience. I decided that this year, I would finally bite the bullet, as they say, and respect myself enough to get a good suit – just because. I even got ambitious early on, reading all about the latest trends and best fits in this year’s crop of fashion magazines and blogs. Then, I came across news of the new Jantzen retro collection! Oooo. I was obsessed. Obsessed with this…
Can you blame me? I went straight to the Jantzen site to find an Ottawa retailer, and couldn’t. I made a couple of special trips to various malls to find similar, and came up empty. I even considered an Ebay purchase, but couldn’t quite muster the nerve to buy a bathing suit from a stranger – without so much as knowing my size (which is often different in bathing suits). So, bitter and disappointed, I gave up and have been making do with my too loose, too faded, too dumpy suit of 2002.
Imagine my glee when I discovered Swimco in Calgary. They still had the Jantzen Ruched Vamp one-piece maillot in my most favourite colour turquoise! There is was…right in front of me…and in a whole variety of sizes. Without a moment of hesitation, I grabbed a selection, and headed straight for the change room, admitedly a little bit daunted, but totally hopeful.
WOW. I put it on and was amazed. I looked, and felt, like a million bucks. Glamourous. Womanly. Sexy. From all angles even! Va-va-voom!
No excuse necessary, and price no object, I bought the suit on the spot.
Girls…we all deserve to feel this good in our swim apparel. Find yourselves a suitable and sexy bathing suit. Don’t wait, and don’t scrimp. Life is too short!

I so know what you mean. I bought an exquisite brown number which, even on sale, was more expensive than I usually pay for wardrobe pieces with many, many more times the fabric. But to feel good on the beach, it’s money well spent!
