Etsy does it again…

A little earlier this summer, this girl about town shared a few Ottawa-based Etsy shops I found while browsing.  Well, I’ve been back at it, and here are a couple more Etsy gems worth checking out…

For starters, how about this exquisite stuff Radically Riley?  A high school chemistry teacher by day, she whips up beautiful handmade jewellery at night.    Kudos to her for following her passion, and for turning her creativity into commerce!  These are unbelievably stunning pieces.

And then there is Rebecca.  She is the brains behind the operation at 3rd Life, and seems to know a thing or two about recycling.  Rescuing vintage fabrics, she refashions them into one-of-a-kind pieces that are as unique as they are appealing.

Feast your eyes on this lovely cuff bracelet, which would no doubt look just as great with jeans and a tee as it would with a sophisticated black dress and high heels…

Anyway, with the gift giving season fast approaching, I will definitely need to start dropping hints!

Trade in for a Dinner Jacket!

Refusing to buy the often repeated argument that Ottawa is somehow less style savvy than those other larger cities we all know, friends and partners Ashley McConnell and Justyna Baraniecki are working hard on developing a different pitch.   These two transplanted go-getters have combined a love of fashion with their obvious creative talents, and have just kicked out their first ever edition of The Dinner Jacket, an enviro-friendly online magazine.  You can check it out right here and follow their blog here.

Featuring photography from creative collaborators John Smith, Lindsay Ralph, and Dan Ziemkiewicz, their inaugural effort is focused on vintage clothing, and profiles well known local dealer Mary Ann Harris of the Ottawa Antique Market, among others.  Well hello there!

Resolved to put Ottawa on the style map, they have challenged us all to “throw off our Smart Set blazers in exchange for a dinner jacket”.

I, for one, applaud them!
