A Good Day

This girlaboutOtown is a mom, and yesterday was Mother’s Day.  I know there are some who might malign this annual event as a massive marketing conspiracy or  “pooh-pooh” it as a ploy to increase greeting card sales, but I beg to differ.  When kids and families to slow down long enough to notice their Moms, and to appreciate them, it is definitely worth celebrating.  No greeting cards necessary.

Yesterday, I awoke to a big smile from my little one, followed by a warm hug.  Rare?  Yes.  Wonderful?  Indeed.

Accompanied by a bakery-fresh cinnamon bun, some lovely pink stems and a piping hot coffee, she squealed with delight as she proudly unveiled her handmade gifts and a poem she composed all by herself.    It took no more than a moment, but it was a moment this mother will remember always.

While she may have been aided by adults, it was obvious her heart needed no prompting.   She was glad to be giving, which can only be good, and was clear when she read “the best thing about you is that you like me, and I like you…”.

It was a good day.
