It was supposed to be a day trip. We were going to head onto the open road, aim the car out of town and just drive – with the windows down and the music up loud.
We were going towards the town of Perth, or other points west, for some snooping around, a bit of flea market shopping and plain old silliness. Planning on ice cream for snacks and a perhaps a fry truck for dinner, the day was to be fueled by fun food and sense of spontaneity and adventure.
Then, the rain came.
So instead, we stayed closer to home and found slightly more familiar things to do. First, it was off to the movies to shamelessly indulge in a bona fide chick flick and a big bag of hot buttered popcorn. Then following the sweet but strangely satisfying movie, we planted ourselves at one girlfriend’s ever-so-glamourous downtown condo and prepared for an evening of gossiping and gourmet. Over the course of the evening, we whipped off a few filet mignons from Saslove’s with grilled veggies gathered at the Byward Market, added fresh local berries topped with maple syrup, and toasted our friendship with a bottle Veuve Cliquot Rosé.
It shouldn’t come as any surprise, but girlfriends don’t have to get away to have a good time…
