This is fast becoming the summer that wasn’t. We have all had more than our fair share of rain, and we’re growing tired of cold weekends that just won’t cooperate.
Once worried that my front porch had yet to be prettied by potted annuals, I am now relieved that I didn’t waste the effort or resources. I can count on less than one hand the number of evenings spent sitting outside to watch the stars come out, and I’m pretty sure the same is true for my neighbours across! They certainly haven’t missed the absence of a flower-filled view.
Anyway, this summer spent inside has not been a total wash. While I have not been caught up completely by the Internet, I do confess to have come across a few new Ottawa blogs that are definitely worth checking out.
First, I have become a big fan of Relishing.ca. Written in a loose and lovely free-form style, this clever contribution to Ottawa’s blogging scene is at once smart, sophisticated, thoughtfully provocative and frivolously fun. You too can follow the fashionable Kimu as she bravely confesses her conundrums, observes interesting oddities, and shares the wardrobe she wears while walking purposefully through life.
Fabulous photos from relishing.ca
And speaking of style, there seems to be a new sartorially oriented blog on the Ottawa scene. Feast your fashion-starved eyes on Ottawa Street Fashion, then sit back and smile. We may have finally arrived. This site features some seriously great snapshots of capital style, and catches the city’s best-dressed while out on the street. Coming soon to a corner near you…consider yourself warned!
Since Poppy’s post, there have been a few who have made their love of good food clear. For the foodies among you, Rachelle Eats Food might just whet your appetite. This local blog offers up honest restaurant reviews, tested recipes, and helpful wine recommendations with a side of fabulous photography and the occasional husband-made culinary adventure. As far as this girlaboutOtown is concerned, it’s five star.
Then there is Let Her Bake Cake, a very personal take on baking by London-based Ottawa native Hilary. Now you may already know of my weakness for cupcakes, but not of my reluctance to bake. This girlaboutOtown is much better off dreaming of cake than she is making it, and reading Hilary’s blog means my pants are more likely to fit!

So in the absence of sunshine, eat well and stay stylin’!

Oh dear, more cool blogs to add to the to-read folder… Thanks for the shout-out!
