Apparently, the temperature has caught up with the season, and it finally feels like summer. Truly, I am in my element, and I wish it would last forever. Here are a few reasons why this week has been wonderful:
1. The cicadas are singing. Loudly. There is nothing like the long, strong sound of a cicada to pierce the heat and to remind me that nature is always nearby, even in the city.
2. Warm wind. With no sharp edge, the feel of the breeze can stop me in my tracks. Summer swells embrace me, and inspire deep, life-enhancing breathing.
3. Nightfall. Still long enough, days do eventually fall away to the night, but the cool air doesn’t follow. Instead, the evening sky entices me outside, to sit and listen to the giggles and squeals of others also under its spell.
4. Wide open water. While nowhere near the sea, I still relish the sight of waves lapping steadily onto the sand, and of sunshine sparkling across a deep blue expanse.
5. Britannia Beach. Pretty peaches. Cartoon movie matinees at the Rainbow Cinema. Playing on the porch. Spectacular fireworks from a distance. Corn on the cob. A decadent weekday breakfast at the Corner Bar and Grill. Windows wide open when it rains. Pink popsicles.
The threat of falling leaves and a quickened pace don’t yet detract from my dreamy haze. For now, I stubbornly resist.

Summer has definitely arrived — finally!!
Nothing beats the heat like swimming in a pretty little lake with no power boats

That sounds lovely too…enjoy.
I love summer for the exact same reasons as you. I wouldn’t be as sad about it leaving us if we didn’t get such long and harsh winters here in Ottawa. Blech!
