Kudos to Ottawa’s yoga community for improving access to yoga with their new Passport to Prana, a discount card that entitles its owner to one free class at each of 14 different yoga studios in the Ottawa area - for just $20!

When I heard about Passport to Prana, I had to have one. There are so many benefits…
First, there’s the obvious – the money. Fourteen classes at each of these studios would cost me about $200 at regular drop-in prices, so $20 represents a huge savings. Second, I now have many more yoga classes to choose from when trying to accommodate my busy schedule. Lastly, I’m meeting different instructors and trying new styles of yoga that aren’t offered at my current studio, where I tend to go because I feel bound to use up my bulk purchase of classes. As a result, I’ve expanded my yoga practice and I’m saving money.

Since purchasing my Passport to Prana, I’ve also had the pleasure of checking out several different studios for the first time. For example, while vacationing at a cottage in Fitzroy Harbour, I went to the Yoga and Tea Studio in Carp. The gleaming hardwood floors, abundant natural light, warm instructor welcome, and serene surroundings were a pleasant surprise that allowed me to continue my yoga practice in peace while I was away from home.
Of note, this studio comes by their name honestly. Herbal tea, accompanied by delicious homemade cookies, is served after class and can even be enjoyed outdoors in the garden next door.
Whether you want to mix it up a bit and save some money, or you are a first-timer wondering where to go and what type of yoga to try, I highly recommend the Passport to Prana card. It may take you to a place that you only dreamed existed.
For more information and to purchase a card click here, or visit participating studios. Just don’t forget, just like any passport, the Passport to Prana has an expiry date. The discount card will be honoured by participating studios until April 30, 2010.
