This past Saturday was a bit silly.
The fella and I were stuck schlepping through the big box stores in search of cheap Halloween treats for distribution to neighbourhood goblins, ghosts and gangsters. Once again, we had left it too late and were forced to forage for whatever was left on the shelves. Not satisfied with the prospect of offering potato chips (preferred by 9 out of 10 dentists) as a lame replacement for the real sugary goods, we kept on schlepping on until we had located the appropriate loot. Make no mistake either – in the mayhem we encountered at the mall – this was no small feat.
Contrast this craziness with the calm of last Saturday’s more civilized search for sweets, and you will understand why this girlaboutOtown is better off going against the grain and avoiding crowds.
After hearing from a favourite neighbour about a recently opened vintage clothing store, I thought I might go and give it a try. Knowing too, that said source for vintage wear was on Beechwood Ave, it occurred to me I might kill two (proverbial) birds with one stone. Off I went to finally find Isobel’s Cupcakes & Cookies, which was conveniently located three doors down from the brand new MaBelle Boutique.
Suffice it to say, the cupcakes were really delish. With both the little girlaboutOtown and the fella in tow, I managed to sample a full selection of sweet treats, even if I did have to sneak in an extra finger-full of beautiful buttermilk icing when they were looking the other way…
And, as for MaBelle and the vintage clothing boutique, I’m pleased to report that this little shop was seriously stocked with style. Serving up an interesting mix of authentic period pieces from the 60′s, 70′s and 80′s alongside timeless thrift, MaBelle has plenty to offer fashionistas and frugalistas alike.

I love your reviews and the way you just enjoy our city! I would like to see/suggest that you also address price points (for example, how expensive are items on this store? Some can be very pricy).

MaBelle was seemed to be fairly priced, given the nature of the clothes, but there weren’t any bargain basement giveaways to be had.
