Sometimes, it’s best to just come right out and say something. This is one of those times.
So, here goes…
It seems that this girlaboutOtown is going to be on the radio.
Yup. That’s right, the radio. EZ Rock 99.7 FM actually. Yikes! I can hardly believe it!
Amazingly, I was approached a few weeks back by renowned clinical relationship therapist, author and broadcaster Sue McGarvie who recently launched Love and Lipstick, a sassy new talk radio program for women. Apparently, she reads girlaboutOtown, and thought listeners might be interested in hearing from me! Wowza.
I’ll be contributing a 2-4 minute segment each week, and will be sharing my perspective on what helps makes a relationship great. Whether it’s fun dates, groovy places, or happy spaces, I hope to offer up a few fresh ideas for you and yours to try.
You should know though, I did think twice.
After all, I am in the middle of starting a business, I’m still going to school, and there is my little girlaboutOtown too. I barely have time to blog these days, and I wondered if I was crazy to be taking on more.
“How the $&#@ are you going to do this?” I asked myself, and this is where I started with Sue when she and I sat down to talk. But let me tell you, she is one hell of a great lady, and I was totally reassured. My segments will build on my blog content – albeit with a slightly different angle – and will be pre-recorded. They will air each week without me being required in-studio, and then sent to me afterwards to be posted on the blog so you can listen if you missed the show. (This may take some figuring out on my part, since posting an MP3 is definitely new to me)!
Here’s the thing. I’ve never done anything like this before. I’m a complete beginner – which will probably be obvious if you listen to my first few segments -but let’s face it…I’m always going on about “stretching beyond the comfort zone” and “trying new things”. I kind of felt like I should put my money where my mouth is and give it a go.
I think Love and Lipstick is a great concept and Sue McGarvie is a very smart cookie. She is doing her best to create a show that women can learn from and relate too, and is working super-hard to make it a success. It’s a bit scary to be starting a new program on a new station, but if there is anyone who can pull it off, it’s Sue. Plus, I’m just excited to have the opportunity. If nothing else, it’s a learning experience, and I love to learn! It’s a bit like breathing for me.
Love and Lipstick with Sue McGarvie can be heard on EZ Rock 99.7 FM, every Sunday night from 8-12pm. In addition to guests like me, Sue will be interviewing experts, taking questions and talking directly to callers about the quality of their relationships. Tune in and listen, call in to talk, or read Sue’s blog here.

Neat! Congratulations on the great opportunity. Looking forward to hearing your segments.
WOW. That is great news. Congratulations! (I know Sue too. She is a dynamo for sure!)
Congrats!! It sounds like a great opportunity and I will have to find this station on my dial (do we even call it that in the digital age?) and give it a listen!
That’s so cool, congrats. Once I was asked to be on the radio but I chickened out.
You will so rock at this. Plus you already have that “sultry-radio-voice” thing going on!:)
Congratulations! It sounds like it will be such a great learning experience and I’m sure you’ll be an old pro before long! Can’t wait to hear the first one!
THis is SO cool! So exciting to have been approached by Sue and kudos for you for reaching beyond that “comfort level.” I can’t wait to follow this journey of yours — you’ll be fantastic!
That’s fantastic!! Congratulations and I’ll be tuning in!
Congrats!!! What a wonderful opportunity AND great exposure for Girl About Otown. I will definitely be tuning in.
We started listening to 99.7 a couple of weeks ago and both agree it’s a great station – and that’s saying something – being the Bluegrass/Old Country vs New Country/Jazz/Soul/Blues couple that we are
!
oh wow congrats!! This is very exciting
Oh wow, what a fantastic and fun opportunity for you!!!
It’s so exciting to see so many of my blog buddies going places… now if only I could start going places too!!
Looking forward to hearing your first segment
Kelly
Thanks so much to all of you for your encouragement. Yikes. Anyway, I’m nervous but excited, so we’ll just have to wait and see how it goes. Thanks again!!
