Blogging Ottawa 2

Here are a few recent anecdotes from blogland Ottawa…

Decorate it Darling is presently in the midst of her move.  Pictures of decorating progress in her new pad are posted here, and the place is looking particularly pleasing.

While not exactly available locally (unless shipping costs are easily covered), The Materialist showcases some very cool vintage and one-of a kind furniture.  This is my kind of stuff!

Victoire guest blogger Liana Guberman shares some very astute observations about fierce fashion in Europe, in contrast to Ottawa’s more subdued signature style.  I too am wondering when “turned out” turned into “trying too hard” around here?

Tracizzle, of Youth League and the Spies, posted some great photos by local fashion photographer Daniel Weinand.  She styled the shoot that featured pieces from local fashion designers Me et Moi (sold at Victoire).

While on the subject(s), Ottawa Street Style debriefs on the recent launch party for Me et Moi held at Victoire.  Interestingly, the key message seems to be that local designers, stylists and other creative types need to get serious about their key messages!  Marketing and PR isn’t just for the big fish anymore, and the free advice provided here is definitely worthy of consideration.

And on a separate note, The Code Factory has just added a Tornado Foosball table to their already casual and relaxed work environment.  The Code Factory, brainchild of local entrepreneur Ian Graham, is a recent initiative to help foster innovation here in Otown.  The Code Factory provides its members a collaborative workspace, shared business services and financial/policy advocacy for local tech start-ups.   Plus, it sounds like fun!

Blogging Ottawa

Here are a few interesting tidbits from Ottawa area bloggers over the last little while…

Fellow interior design junkie Decorate it Darling has been busy nesting in a new apartment.  Read as she shares her ups and downs, including an unfortunate incident with spray paint.

David Reevely of Greater Ottawa dishes out some scoop about a highly anticipated restaurant opening here.  It seems favourite local celebrity/chef Stephen Beckta is planning to open a second hot spot next January, in the heart of the Byward Market.  Stay tuned!

Cheap Eats Ottawa provided their regular list of LCBO Vintages values last Friday, this time with the following rather unusual warning…

”NB – We generally do not recommend that you NOT purchase a product on release – but this time we are compelled to do so. DO NOT BUY Megalomaniac Pink Slip Rose fr. Ontario. The bottle sports a very compelling label and the name is catchy, fun & enticing. The wine is absolutely vile – this product was produced by marketers not winemakers.”

Ottawa Street Style posted this Sunday, clearly indicating there are signs of style out there in this capital city.  Bravo!

Tracizzle of the very sassy Youth League and the Spies just recently returned from a jaunt to New York City, which she recounts over several posts.  Saturday, she shared pictures of her shopping haul, reserving privacy where the price of her beautiful new Dolce & Gabbana bag is concerned.  Personally, I think she really scored with this vintage dress, for a mere $60.  No doubt she will style it well for both summer and winter wear.
